I've been here so many times and the food somehow just gets better and better. The chilli cauliflower, the mtn dew sushi, the deep fried Oreo - even the flavored edamame all just HIT and hit hard! Arguably the best and largest serving size of sushi in south east michigan - will recommend again and again. Staff also super nice and friendly. A 1 hour wait turned into 25 mins as we walked around the streets of Royal oak and the cool tones give a poetry slam vibe.
One of my fav things about Ronin is that they DONT take reservations and they DO have a spot you can sit and order while you wait or can even just eat/drink there! I love that you can still go there spontaneously, unlike many other places. Sushi is really good and so is the Cobb salad. Great happy hour deals!
Very gluten-free friendly sushi spot in downtown Royal Oak. It's usually very busy, but there is an open seating area that's first come, first serve or the bar while you wait. Even if you have to wait a while, there are shops to explore nearby, and the food will be worth it. We've eaten here multiple times and have always had excellent service. My favorite is the Cha Cha Roll with the GF modifications. The tuna tartare was not as good as some others. The Basque Cheesecake (which was gluten free!) special they had as their special in April was AMAZING and I'll be thinking about it every time I want dessert.
We tried Ronin Sushi the other day and it was decent. The vibe was cool, be aware that the lounge upstairs some of the seats don't have backs! I would recommend the lounge for a drink but not for a full meal - worth the wait for a table downstairs. The shrimp with yuzu app was tasty, the sashimi was fresh, sushi was okay (not bad but not super memorable). My boyfriend and I both got the whiskey sours and they were very tart. I would come back for the ambiance and the apps/sake. Random critique but organize the menus! It was kind of challenging to shuffle through the three menus front and back as some had similar food items/cocktails and others had different. Streamlining the menu would do wonders.
What a fun time at Ronin. Great spot to meet up for dinner and drinks before a show at RO Theater next door. We met up for Happy Hour, which was amazing, so much food and lots of drinks! We had a blast. The tuna was out of this world and the dumplings....OMG! I can't wait to come back.
Ronin is one of the very best choices for sushi. Located in downtown Royal Oak and street parking is available on all sides. The decor is heavy wood and leathers giving it a modern rustic look. But the ambiance is a vibe which gives a very modern feel. Although there are tables in the dining area me and my crew love hanging in the lounge on the comfy leather sofas. The food is tasty! There are specialty sushi rolls like the sea monster and the BLT roll that you can't get anywhere else. And they have happy hour and seasonal offerings. The lemon jasmine rice is excellent. There is a full bar and the craft cocktails are always on point. If you're in the mood to lounge with friends and eat some good sushi, then Ronin is the spot!
My wife and I arrived around 6pm on a Friday night for dinner. They do not have reservations or call a head seating. We knew there would be a wait most likely from our past dining experiences here. There was about a 25 minute wait. As soon as we were seated, drinks and food were promptly delivered. Ronin sushi has some of the best sushi in the area. We were very happy with the service. Our appetizers were delicious. We were very happy with our sushi selection with the exception of the Philly role. It had an overpowering smoked flavor to it from the salmon. Our waitress did take it off of our bill. Ronin gets extra points for having mock tail options as my wife is currently pregnant. I would highly suggest this restaurant if you're a sushi lover.
First time here, visited for the newly returned happy hour. Had practically everything on the menu, it was so very good to great to stellar. Definitely go with one or two other people so you can order everything and maybe do a victory lap on faves. I thought the salmon nigiri, the Short Rib Fries, and the Mountain Dew Roll were all excellent. I probably wouldn't order the veg gyoza or crispy rice Rangoon again. Nothing terrible about them but just didn't flip my skirt. Excellent full bar, creative cocktails, desserts, etc. I will be back!
